It is sad because of his loss to Southern Gospel Music, family, and friends but happy for him because he is home with the one he has sung about for so many years. He is also free from the pain that he has been suffering.
I would like to share some thoughts about this great Christian man. Though I never got to know him personally, I have seen him in concert many times. I could look at him and tell he knew the one he was singing about and that was a blessing to me. Everytime I saw The Cathedrals in concert it was a worship time. There was laughing, crying, and just praising the Lord. Even though I didn't get to know him as mentioned earlier, he had a huge impact on my life. He was a true gentlemen, great ambassador for the Lord, and a great family man. I know the Heavenly choir is welcoming another great saint of God home.
As I close I would like to add that we lift his family up in prayer during this time. As I think about this time I remember another great bass singer, who was great friends with Mr. Younce, J.D. Sumner, who had a great article in The Singingnews before his passing, entitled I ,Can't Wait. Like the title said I can't Wait to get to Heaven to meet Mr. Younce and all the other greats that have all gone home. So until next time God Bless and continue to pray for the Younce family.
Clayton

New Website

Hello everyone,
Iwanted to let everyone know I'm starting a new website. Here is some more information on this group:

Pastor Tony Goodwin is well known as an accomplished songwriter having written songs for many of today's top Gospel artists including, Naomi & The Segos and others. Having traveled extensively in 70's and 80's, Their latest project, "Mercy & Grace" is a great step forward in the direction of God for their ministry.
Joined by wife, Debra, and son Chad, Every week the Goodwins are delivering powerful concerts and worship services at Church and concert events throughout the country. Each group member has their own unique style and is featured on different songs of their new recording.
Their producer, and Lamp President Mike Pillow recently was asked about the addition of the Goodwins to the Gospel Heritage label - - "We have not heard a family group with this kind of energy for some time. Their awesome style can sometime bring remembrances of some of the classic groups of years ago, but then when your not expecting it along comes their son Chad!" Mike continues, "All I can say about Chad is that he is definitely one of the best new young singers in our industry!"
Look for their latest release "When He Died" on Lamp Music Compilation 26!
The Goodwins are now filling their schedule for 2005, we would love the opportunity to be in service with you, please contact us to schedule a time to minister.
www.thegoodwinsgospel.com
864-246-0060

Ya'll be sure to check this group out for your concert or church event. I wanted to promote a group that just started in January of this year. They are led by Landon Dreher. Here is some more information about them:

The ministry of The Southland Harmony Boys Quartet was formed from dreams and the desire to share the gospel in song. Having grown up in the south and traveled many miles singing southern gospel it was just natural to name the quartet for the area we are all from, “The South”.
We as Southland Harmony Boys want to bring to you the very best in traditional southern gospel.

The SouthLand Harmony Boys was launched in January 2004 and soon to be known as in years past as having the old time southern gospel sound but also the ability to sing some of the new style of southern gospel. When you have four-part harmony being sung by men of God and also men of years of experience in southern gospel you have something special.

The Southland Harmony Boys members are tenor singer Jerry White, lead singer Landon Dreher, baritone singer Doug Reed and bass singer is Joe Armstrong. Jerry White is from Gainesville, Fl. Jerry has been singing over 30 years and has shared the stage with gospel greats such as James Blackwood and The Toney Brothers. Jerry has that pure natural tenor voice and is a pleasure to listen to. Landon Dreher from Bagley, Al. has sung with quartets all over the southeast. Landon sang with The Southmen Quartet who has seen singers like Tim Riley, Jack Toney, Buddy Burton, Toney Gore, Greg Crowe(now with Poet Voices), Buddy Poe(Reunion Quartet), and many others sang in that quartet. Doug Reed is from Russellville, Al. is the song writer of the quartet and we are sure that his songs will bless you as well as his powerful vocal abilities. Doug traveled with David Ring for the last 4 years. Joe Armstrong who resides in Pleasant Grove, Al. started singing southern gospel when he finished high school. Joe has one of the smoothest and lowest voices in the industry. Joe has sung with The Masters Men, Full Sail, Gene Lowery Quartet and others.

We Hope that we can lift up our Lord and Savior in song and that we can witness to the lost and we can minister to the saved and lift spirits and make them smile and enjoy true southern gospel music as we travel from place to place. Please help us in our ministry in any way you can. Please go to our website and listen to our latest single, This Old Ship.

Here is the information you can contact them to have them at your church or concert and their website.

BOOKINGS: Landon Dreher, PO Box 791; Dora, Al. 35062
Telephone (205) 648-4717 (205) 915-1662
Toll Free: 1-877-447-6483

www.SouthLandHarmonyBoysQt.com
LandonDreher@SouthLandHarmonyBoysQt.com

Southern Grace Records

Ya'll be sure and check this group out when they come to your area or book them at your church or event.
Until Next Time
Clayton

I'm Back

Hello everyone,
I'm back after some computer problems to share all the latest news in Southern Gospel Music and there has been a lot. One of the biggest items in the news is the retirement of Tim Riley of Gold City. Mr. Riley stated that the reasons for this include his recent knee surgery and wanted to spend time with his family. He will still be involved in the ministry of Gold City, just from a different area. His sons Doug and Danny will be taking over. We wish Tim the best in the future. In other Gold City news Jonathan Wilburn has stopped the rumors of his departure from Gold City.
In other news Les Beasley of the Florida Boys was recently released from the hospital. We wish him the best in his recovery as well. The first is songwriter Conrad Cook. He passed away this afternoon after a lengthy illness. Funeral announcements are still pending. The second is Max Epperson, founder of the group The Singing Echoes. He is the father of Gary and Lynn Epperson, who is carrying on this groups tradition. Remember these 2 families in your prayers. God Bless.
Clayton

Email Address

If anyone would like to contact me with concert announcements, here is my email address:Southrngosplrev@aol.com.

Squire Parsons Concert

To begin with I want to say this was one of the best concerts I've been to. The Lord was present on this night and I was truly blessed. Squire Parsons is one of the nicest and sincerest Christians I have seen. I knew of his reputation of this but truly experienced it firsthand this past Saturday night. The concert began with Squire singing We Ought To Praise Him which set the tone for the evening. He sang a few more songs from his new album, followed by some of the classics he has written over the years, then to close out the program The Squire Parsons Trio sang and they were truly awesome as well. Right before the invitation, which Squire led, he sang the classic song Beulah Land. They one more song following a prayer. If you get a chance to hear Squire Parsons I highly encourage you to do so. You will be truly blessed by this awesome Christian man. I purchased his book The Rest Of The Song, which tells his life story. I have just started reading but I can tell it is going to be good. I recommend anyone who likes to read or don't to purchase this book and see how God used Squire's life to bring him to this place where God is using him mightily. Have a great day and God Bless.
Clayton

Concerts

Hello everyone,
Hope all is well with you today. I wanted to write and talk about some great concerts coming to the Jasper, Alabama area over the next few months. It all starts this Saturday, the 26th of June, with Squire Parsons at the Jasper First Church of the Nazarene at 7:00 p.m. This is going to be a great time of worship with the writer of one of the classic songs in Southern Gospel (Sweet Beulah Land). I will have a report on this concert this weekend so check it out.
Next up will be The Florida Boys on July 8th. This is going to be another great night of singing with a legendary group. Over the next few months we will be having Brian Free and Assurance, The Inspirations and in September one of the biggest concerts to come to Jasper in a long time. It is called a tribute to J. G. Whitfield's All Night Sings. This great concert will feature The Dove Brothers, Reggie Saddler Family, The Greenes, The Whisnants, Charles Johnson and the Revivers, Down East Boys, Anchormen, Naomi and the Segos ( Naomi is celebrating 45 years in Gospel Music this Year), and HisSong. Following this great concert in October will be Crabb Gathering 2004. I will have reports on all these great events in future editions so be sure to check back often. Don't forget to sign my guestbook and email with ideas to make it better. Have a great day and God Bless.

Welcome

Hello Everyone and welcome to my blog.
